ICAST 2009 Part 1 - Shimano...Here and Now
The SFT staff had been looking forward to ICAST 2009, the world's largest sportfishing trade show, which was held this year in Orlando Florida, July 15-17. This year did not disappoint. In fact we were razzled, we were dazzled, and it was obvious that the industry is serious when it comes to developing the most innovative gear and accessories, which will make the coming year one of the best ever for fishermen.
This is Part 1 of a series of blogs that we will release during the week, so that we can let you know of the great products we had a chance to get our hands on at the show. Many of the products are just around the corner and we will keep you posted as to when they are available to you!
Shimano Cumara Reaction Series:
We have always loved the Shimano Cumara rods for all the reasons that got them voted as "2008 Best Value Rod" by Tackle Tour.com. Now Shimano takes it one step further by introducing the Cumara Reaction Series of Rods. An eleven rod series that is specifically designed for fishing moving baits in many different types of cover. These rods are broken into two categories, hard cover and soft cover. A true high modulus (IM10) graphite (same as used in the contact series from Cumara) is used with true reaction tapers (moderate fast to moderate). These are not "dumbed down" contact series blanks. They are thin walled, light scrim, amazing rods. The range of models will cover small poppers and crankbaits to spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, up to swimbaits and deep diving crankbaits. No matter which model you choose, you'll sport a rod that is simply the most precise and lightest weight reaction bait rod you have ever fished. Feel free to give us a call to discuss these rods in more detail. Availability July 23rd.
Shimano Core 50 and Core 51:
Calling the Core 100 and 101 the sports car of the Shimano Line is no stretch. That being the case, we will have to call the Core 50/51 the F-18! These reels are smaller and noticably lighter, but still have good capacity. They are also outfitted with seven S A-RB Ball Bearings and one A-RB Roller Bearing, along with a 7.0:1 gear ratio. Want to purchase a performance reel you will never regret, this is it. Feel free to give us a call... we fish the Core and can answer your questions. Availability July 23.
Shimano Stradic CI4 Carbon:
Here is a tweaked out version of the most popular spinning reel Shimano ever made. A carbon frame and sideplate comes from the same material Shimano uses in their high performance bike division. Available in both the 1000 and 2500 sizes, these reels are designed for finesse applications. A tricked out handle with a knob made from the same material as the handle on the Cumara rod series also helps keep the weight down. We liked the feel...very smooth and solid. Availability July 23.
